SUMMARY:
SJB Group, LLC is seeking a Senior Transportation Engineer for Highway/Roadway Projects. Ideal candidate should possess 5 years' of experience in road design with urban and rural highways with at least 4 years working at project management level on Louisiana DOTD projects. Candidate should have the ability to design arterial roadways for municipalities; manage staff, budget, and track projects, as well as be responsible for client deliverables. Signing, striping, traffic signal and street light design are possible responsibilities.
Additionally, the candidate should have capabilities to promote and attract work as well as perform and manage work, including functional knowledge of DOTD systems, software, etc. Louisiana Professional Engineer Registration required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Leads engineering and planning projects in local areas.
- Prepares and checks detail plans, design calculations, cost estimations and recommendations prepared by other engineers for completeness, mathematical accuracy and conformity to engineering practices and standards.
- Compiles and analyzes engineering data and prepares conclusions and recommendations.
- Designs and prepares preliminary and final plans for highways, drainage structures, municipal utilities, roadway lighting, traffic control devices, intelligent transportation systems (ITS), and miscellaneous highway facilities.
- Provides input for the development and maintenance of traffic management policies and procedures.
- Discusses plans, specifications and work schedules with contractors, utility companies and other governmental agencies.
- Participates in studies to determine sufficiency of existing highway systems and structures and programming of future construction.
- Estimates cost of projects and writes contracts and specifications for labor, materials and equipment.
- Develops preliminary engineering applications to determine construction feasibility and estimated costs.
- Meets with representatives of private industry, local organizations and citizens to discuss proposed highway construction activity.
- Interprets contracts, specifications and plans to contractors, subordinates and the public.
- Prepares final layout drawings and calculations.
- Prepares studies and completes designs of highway structures of all classifications.
- Develops data for public review, hearings or informational meetings.
- Determines the validity and reliability of testing methods and procedures.
- May serve as quality assurance engineer reviewing plans, testing or construction for highway projects.
- Provides a marketing leadership role with emphasis on transportation and planning.
- Reviews data and operation analysis in support of development sites (new, expanded and upgrades), and involving interactions with federal and state/city agencies as well as community organizations.
- Writes and reviews development proposals and associated transportation and planning studies.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
Professional Civil Engineer with 5+ years' of experience working with clients, local / state agencies, elected officials and public stakeholders to understand and address local and regional transportation needs. Understanding of the transportation planning process is important. Experience managing transportation planning projects expected. Must demonstrate excellent technical writing and public speaking skills.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex technical documents and plans. Ability to compose clear, accurate reports. . Ability to speak effectively to clients and professional peers.
